Drum roll, please... for the unveiling of my first 5 on 5:
I have a helper who loves to pick berries with me. She's not afraid of mosquitoes, poison ivy, or brambles.
She may, however, be any where from slightly to majorly afraid of insects (excluding mosquitoes of course). Insects beware if you invade her space you may get the death stare or even a blood curdling scream that would take the most stoic of individuals to not immediately dissolve into fits of laughter. (I know because I fail miserably).
Early on in our foraging expeditions she figured out there where great benefits to tagging along with me. Since Black Raspberry eating is right at the top of her list of things she loves to do, she very rarely turns down the opportunity to head out to the woods with me.
Sometimes the berry picking can be just too long and drawn out; I take to long and want to get as many berries as possible. When she begins to get bored or the mosquitoes become majorly annoying, I send her to sit on the four-wheeler.
This! This was beyond sitting, it was beyond precious. It was the perfection of memories and storytelling. My girl being herself... melts my heart.

What a doll! Do you guys make anything with the berries or just eat them as is?
ReplyDeleteEboni, we do make jam with them and then put some into the freezer to use in smoothies and cobblers over the winter months.
